Tasting Notes

There's something quite lovely about Long Island Chardonnay. It can be crisp, vibrant, possess a lively acidity, and present just a hint of lemon. An elegant finish of soft citrus flavors encourages you to take another sip, and here a slight vanilla essence appears. The 2008 Roanoke Vineyards Chardonnay was largely fermented in stainless steel, however we rounded the edges with a few barrels from french oak. The result is the perfect window into Long Island Chardonnay.

While Roanoke Vineyards is known as a red wine specialist, our initial venture into wine began in 1983 with the vines that grow the fruit for our current Chardonnays. The Chardonnay vineyard is just down the road on Sound Avenue, and is now owned by Steve Mudd. These beautiful and older vines tend to produce less fruit, but fruit that is much more saturated with flavor and intensity. A great Chardonnay is one of life's most wonderful pleasures.
