The Winemaking

When it comes to making wine, Roanoke Vineyards is a fully traditionalist enterprise. We never filter or fine our wines, we favor long maceration periods, and we use strictly French Oak for our barrel aging, favoring long periods in the barrel to achieve maximum integration. We never set production levels ahead of time; our wines reflect their vintage because we take care to assess the caliber and character of our fruit anew every year. We hand harvest and hand sort, to make sure that we are getting the best fruit possible, and we favor low yields; one of the luxuries of being a small producer is that we can consistently opt for quality over quantity. From the start, we have worked with the same individuals year in and year out; we have always had the same vineyard manager, the same winemaker, and the same vineyard crew. At Roanoke , we believe that great people make great wine.
